Found A Pet?

The Ramona Humane Society is the holding shelter for lost and unwanted pets from the Cities of Hemet, San Jacinto, Banning, Beaumont and Calimesa. Found pets from the unincorporated areas of Riversidev County (East Hemet, Idyllwild, Valle Vista etc.), City of Perris and Menifee go to the County’ San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus. These shelters will accept a found pet from their areas only. If the pet was found in Ramona’s jurisdiction, please bring the pet to the Ramona Humane Society shelter or call the Ramona Animal Control for a pick-up during business hours. If you would like to hold on to the pet and look for the owner, please see the suggestions below: Please remember that animals are personal property and you must try to locate the rightful owner by reasonable efforts and holding for a sufficient time.
  • Check pet for any identification tags.
  • Post on local Facebook group pages for lost and found pets in your area, research, as there are usually more than one group. Hemet and San Jacinto have “Help, My Pet Is Lost in Hemet/San Jacinto!” and “Lost and found pets – Hemet and San Jacinto”
  • Have the animal scanned for microchip, any vet or shelter will scan free of charge
  • Notify area shelters by making a “Found report”
  • Post flyers in your neighborhood, groomers, pet shops etc.
  • Post ad on Craigslist, both “lost and found” and “pets” section (have person identify animal and possibly show pics that it was their animal)
  • Post found report on Petharbor.com (don’t forget to upload image)
  • Run ad in newspaper (Press Enterprise will run ad for FREE for 2 weeks)
  • Display sign in your front yard “Found Dog”, have person identify
  • Lostmydoggie.com provides a free flyer template and faxes the flyer to local Veterinary offices.
